Mexico aims to generate 5 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2018. This figure represents a slight reduction from a previously announced goal of 8.2 percent released earlier this month. The goal is part of a national development plan recently issued by the energy secretary of Mexico. Looking ahead, Mexico has made it clear of the country’s intention to generate 35 percent of its energy from clean sources by 2024.

The Mexico Energy Reform that is currently underway addresses in large part these clean energy targets and the need for private investment, transparency and free market competition to be integral factors of its success in the long term.
